We know that what we think definitely impacts how we feel. After a disappointing day, we may think, “Ugh. What a disaster. I’ll never get another chance.” The disappointment becomes full-blown discouragement. We talk ourselves out of giving ourselves another chance.
This week, let’s give ourselves another chance by giving ourselves a Resilience Reflection, compassionate thoughts and words we can give to ourselves, family members, friends and colleagues. A Resilience Reflection is an “I love” statement:
I love that I didn’t give up today.
I love how well you advocated for yourself during the conversation.
I love that you tackle your homework as soon as you get home from school.
I love that I keep trying.
When I feel guilty for an impatient moment with my parents, I can release my guilt with this reflection: “I love how I moved on from a bad moment to give us a good day.”
We can remember to giver ourselves a Resilience Reflection with a simple question:
What’s today’s Resilience Reflection?
