The traditional definition of pressure points is:
Pressure points are specific points in the body that are thought to correspond to other parts of the body, and may offer relief when massaged. (Source: Health.com)
For us, let’s tweak the definition:
Pressure points are the stress we feel in our bodies.
When I cared for my parents, I realized my pressure points were my lower back and my hips. When these parts ache, I know the weight of stress on my body is too much. If it’s too much for my body, then it’s way too much for my heart and soul.
If I didn’t listen to these aches, then my body started to almost rebel, making simple movements in my day difficult. When I started to listen to these aches, I started to care for them. I used a cream for my lower back. I started to stretch my muscles so they didn’t stay tense for too long.
Let’s pay attention to our pressure points in our body this week so we can take care of them. We can remind ourselves to listen to our body by asking ourselves this question to start our day: “What’s my pressure point?”
The pressure we feel from too much stress can cause physical pain. Rather than powering through that pressure, let’s take time to soothe ourselves with tender interventions, like cream, breathing and stretching.
We deserve relief from the pressure.
