I’ve been watching the U.S. Open tennis tournament this week. The analysts often ask about a player’s follow through when they hit the ball. How the player ends the stroke is an important as how she approaches the ball to begin her stroke.
The follow through ensures a smooth and effective stroke while setting up the player to be ready for the next stroke.
We can do that, too.
We can follow through on our tasks, responsibilities, decisions and commitments. With a follow through, we don’t regret what we couldn’t complete or delegate or choose.
When we follow through, we’ll be primed to manage our next moment.
To remind ourselves to follow through, we can begin our day with this question:
What’s my follow through?
How will you follow through?
