I’m on a quest to create financial security for family caregivers which means I’m climbing a tall mountain to find allies and partners. On Friday, I connected with an ally who unexpectedly offered some financial support to create awareness for the initiative.
I couldn’t believe it. I reached out in hopes of a public endorsement but hadn’t prepared to ask for more. I immediately said “yes” to the possibility and am putting together items for a potential budget this weekend.
I’m reminded that we can have an ask — even a huge ask — ready, just in case. With an ask in mind, we can be ready with an answer just in case someone says, “What do you need to make this happen?” When we think through what an ask could be, we also practice making the ask, which ensures we have the words when we need them.
Perhaps we don’t make the ask with everyone. That’s prudent. It’s also empowering to know we have a choice and an option. We can be ready and then decide to make the ask when the timing and the audience is right.
This week, let’s begin our day with the question, “What’s my ask today?”
Let us know what this question brings you!
