How Will I Manage My Overwhelm?
When I'm overwhelmed, I freak out. I'd like a different strategy.
I’m working to close out a project which is very, very important to me. To do this, I’m relying on others who have their own projects, problems and worries.
Because I cannot control how quickly others help me close out the project, I am overwhelmed by worries. I am on the edge of the panic cliff.
I’m becoming my own worse enemy.
I need to pivot from panic to focus. Rather than obsessing on when others will give me what I need to close out the project, I need to focus on my own next steps. I need to remind myself that I can manage, rather than succumb, to my overwhelm. I can remember I can choose a strategy other than freaking out by beginning my day with this question: “How will I manage my overwhelm?”
I can acknowledge that feeling tired, which I do, contributes to my overwhelm. I can go to bed early, scale back on how I much I expect of myself, and take moments to simply rest.
I also can close my eyes and send this message out to the Universe: “Thank you for helping me close out this project. I’m grateful for all your help.”
When I’m overwhelmed, I can choose helpful strategies.
