How Will I Enjoy a Lazy Moment Today?
Let's release the judgment of a well-deserved moment of nothingness.
I am weary from doing too much.
I also am very resistant to stopping, to ending my self-imposed grind of constantly feeling the pressure to produce. As my body begs me to take it easy, my mind reminds me of all I could do if I simply got up and got to work.
I suppose writing this week’s Sunday Question during this mind-body battle means my mind won. I’m working.
I’m going to stop soon, though.
I really want to enjoy a lazy moment — that luxurious moment of nothingness, when I could get bored but instead decide to settle into relaxing. When I start to feel a bit restless, I’ll sink further into my comfy couch and daydream.
I’d love good company during my lazy moments. I invite you to join me in creating a practice of making space each day for lazy moments. To remind ourselves to take one, we can ask ourselves this question to start our day: “How will I enjoy a lazy moment today?”
If we take a lazy moment each day, we’ll soon develop the habit that quickly quiets our mind’s objection and just drift into the gratitude of having a moment absent of work, responsibilities, worries and doubts. We work hard to earn a lazy moment.
