For many years, I struggled with how to manage the awful people I encountered. I tried reason, logic and kindness, believing that they just needed information delivered with sensitivity to change their ways.
But awful people are awful because they aren’t reasonable, logical or kind. I’ve learned to simply stop engaging with awful people. I’ve eliminated awful as soon as I can.
We have other awful experiences and situations in our day. Our guilt over what happened yesterday may be awful. Our alarm that wakes us up in the morning may be an awful sound because we stay up too late scrolling mindlessly through social media. Our procrastination because of our fear may be awful.
Let’s eliminate the guilt, the wasteful social media time and the procrastination. Let’s replace the awful with acceptance, rest and small daily actions. We can remind ourselves to eliminate the awful by beginning our day with this question: “How will I eliminate awful today?”
What’s the awful you will eliminate?
